Hike Bird Island Park
Looking for an easy, family-friendly hike with a mix of sights and experiences? Try Bird Island Park, one of Ponte Vedra’s most beloved destinations.
Bird Island Park
Explore Florida’s Wild Side
Located next to the Ponte Vedra Beach Library just off A1A, Bird Island Park lets you stroll along a boardwalk through a mix of Florida ecosystems. Educational signage helps visitors understand the diverse flora and fauna, including the native hammock.
The park is ideal for families with small children, who can enjoy the sea turtle maze in the southern portion of the park or the children’s play area. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables if you bring a picnic, as well as two gazebos and an outdoor story theater.
Visitors can often see a variety of turtles along the boardwalk, and—as its name suggests—a broad mix of birds inhabit the trees and lake, including herons and anhingas.
Much of the walkways are handicap accessible, making it a great spot for visitors with mobility limitations. The park is also dog-friendly, but pets must be kept on a leash.

✓ Parking Tips
The park has a relatively small parking area – if it’s full, drive to the southern area of the library, where there are typically plenty of available spaces.
✓ Choose Your Stroll
Three times around the park is about a mile, so you can make it a short stroll or a longer hike depending on the number of loops you choose.
✓ Learn as You Walk
Take your time reading the many descriptive signs that explain the array of vegetation and its background. Stay on designated paths to prevent trampling sensitive plants and animals – these park environments are very delicate.
✓ Leave No Trace
Keep the “natural” in “natural areas” by packing out what you pack in.
✓ Respect Wildlife
Please do not feed the wildlife while in the park.
✓ Pet Etiquette
Pick up after your pet to ensure this natural environment remains attractive and enjoyable for all visitors.
