Paddle into Paradise

Opened in 2019, Nocatee Landing sits at the southern trailhead of the Nocatee Preserve, right along the Tolomato River. Access the launch via Tolomato Road, which is partially paved and then gravel. The site offers convenient parking, solar-powered restrooms, and is ideal for launching any non-motorized watercraft.

Before heading out on the water, check out the open-air pavilion, which provides stunning views of the river and surrounding landscape. You can bring your own kayak or paddleboard, or have one delivered by local outfitters directly to the launch.

The Tolomato River lets you choose your adventure—whether a quick hour on the water or a half-day excursion. Its largely undeveloped surroundings allow you to explore a mix of natural environments and spot diverse wildlife. Take time to explore Pine Island’s small inlets or venture into the smaller tributaries of Deep Creek State Forest. Be mindful of tidal changes and strong currents while navigating the river.

Expert Tips

✓ Plan Ahead & Beat the Heat
Go out early in the morning for cooler temperatures, more active wildlife, and fewer crowds. If renting equipment, book ahead to save time.

✓ Protect Yourself & Gear
Wear a hat, sun-protective clothing, and ocean-safe sunscreen free of oxybenzone and octinoxate. Bring a waterproof phone case, water, and other essentials.

✓ Respect the Environment
Keep the “natural” in natural areas by packing out what you bring in. Be careful when launching or paddling near shorelines to avoid disturbing vegetation or wildlife.

✓ Reduce Waste
Use refillable water bottles attached to your vessel to prevent plastics from entering the water.
