GTM Eagle Nest
Eagles call the GTM Research Reserve home, and these birds and their nests are prized sights for birders.
GTM Research Reserve
A Majestic Sight
Eagles, our country’s national emblem, find the right ingredients for a home base in the Ponte Vedra area. Visit the GTM Research Reserve to experience the special sight of an eagle’s nest. The Reserve is dedicated to conserving natural biodiversity and cultural resources and is eager to share treasures like the eagle’s nest with the public.
Eagles can be spotted soaring and nesting, especially within the GTM. A telescope at the GTM Visitor Center is focused on an eagle’s nest high in a tree stand. Chances are very good that you’ll be able to add a bald eagle to your birding list. Look for them soaring in solitude, chasing other birds for food, or nesting. The eagle has long been a symbol of dominance, freedom, and dignity. Catching sight of one of these majestic birds is always a special treat.

Expert Tips
✓ Feed Wildlife Responsibly
Do not feed birds human food. Most human food is harmful to birds, especially bread. Feeding birds human food prevents them from eating what they need to survive.
✓ Leave No Trace
Keep the “natural” in natural areas by packing out everything you bring in.
✓ Let Wildlife Eat Naturally
Let birds and animals eat their natural foods. Animals may become conditioned to handouts, eventually losing their fear of people or vehicles.
✓ Learn About Eagles
Understand the eagle better by downloading a Critter Sheet and a Coloring Sheet from the Florida State Parks website: https://www.floridastateparks.org/get-involved/parks-anywhere
✓ Stay Informed
Be in the know about what’s happening in all of St. Johns County’s parks with the Parks and Recreation Newsletter.
✓ Pets Are Welcome
Pets on leashes are allowed — use the available dispensers to clean up after your four-legged friend.
✓ Play and Explore
The park strolls end at a charming playground.
✓ Observe Nature
Use the installed signage to identify birds and animals.
