Kayaking 6 Mile Landing
Finding an easy spot to launch your kayak doesn’t have to be tricky. The public boat ramp at Six Mile Landing offers convenient access, making it simple to get on the water and start your adventure.
Near Guana Dam
Kayak the Winding Guana
Six Mile Landing gets its name by being located about 6 miles north of the Guana Dam right off A1A. You will paddle along the Guana River and can decide to either go north or south. Its about 3.5 miles to reach the Micklers Road if you go north and as noted previously, about 6 miles if you go south to the Guana Dam.
There are only about 12 parking spaces at the launch, so parking at the launch can sometimes be a challenge. If you go out earlier in the day you’ll not only likely see more of the area’s wildlife on the shores, you will also have a better chance of finding parking.
Launching from this area is dependent on water levels which can vary, so check in advance to confirm that water levels are high enough. Once you are on the waterway it is a beautiful, unique experience. It twists and turns through the brackish estuary and has a lot of wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled as you are underway.
If you are not comfortable renting and adventuring out on your own, outfitters also offer guided tours and lessons with both kayaks and stand up paddleboards, so don’t let your inexperience let you miss this great opportunity to see these unique ecosystems.
