Lake Ponte Vedra

Cast Your Line

Lake Ponte Vedra, also known as Guana Lake, is a large, shallow body of water at the north end of the Guana River Wildlife Management Area, just west of Mickler’s Landing. Anglers can catch redfish, spotted sea trout, and flounder from small boats with motors of 10 horsepower or less.

Launch from Six Mile Landing, about six miles north of the Guana Dam off A1A, but check water levels in advance. The lake offers nearly 10 miles of fishing, and arriving early improves your chances of parking and a good catch.

Fishing is allowed year-round from the Guana Dam to a line 2 miles north; the rest of the lake is open from February 10 through November 10. A fishing license is required and can be obtained online before your trip.

✓ Launch & Safety
Be careful when launching your boat or approaching shores — avoid disturbing sensitive vegetation or wildlife habitats.

✓ Protect the Water
Do not let fishing gear or trash fall from your boat. Use trash receptacles and recycle whenever possible.

✓ Sun & Gear
Wear a hat, sunscreen, and sun-protective clothing. Stick to ocean-safe formulas free of oxybenzone and octinoxate. Bring water, a phone, and waterproof phone cases. Wear comfortable clothing that can get wet.

✓ Timing & Fishing License
Beat the summer heat by going early; fish are most active before mid-morning. Make sure you have your fishing license before heading out.
