Bike the Nocatee Preserve

Try biking in this 2,400-acre conservation area, which offers a great mix of undisturbed, old-Florida flora and fauna. Located just west of the Tolomato River, the 3.5-mile, one-way trail lets you immerse yourself in a Florida very similar to what existed hundreds of years ago.

Pedal the Trails of Nocatee Preserve

The Nocatee Preserve is a conservation area that has set aside 2,400 acres to ensure these beautiful lands stay in their natural state for years to come.

The 3.5-mile trail is an “out-and-back” trail, so be ready for a 7-mile round trip if you go all the way. It’s multi-use, so you might see other hikers or horseback riders along the way. The trail is relatively flat, making it an easy ride for all skill levels. Keep an eye out for hikers with dogs — they are allowed but must be on a leash.

The trailhead is located near Ponte Vedra High School and provides easy parking and restrooms. While the trail starts with a nice tree canopy, it opens as it progresses, so make sure to wear a hat for sun protection.

The Preserve is home to a variety of wildlife — wild hogs, deer, turkeys, snakes, and more — so keep your eyes peeled. It can also be home to many insects, particularly in the summer months, so bring plenty of repellent.

Expert Tips

✓ Watch for Others
As the trails allow for multiple uses, keep your eyes out for hikers, horseback riders, and other users.

✓ Take a Break
Have a relaxing picnic at the adjoining Davis Park before or after your ride.

✓ Protect Against Insects
Make sure to bring bug spray — given the proximity to waterways, insects can be present for much of the ride, particularly in the summer months.

✓ Ride Safely
The trail is a great way to experience a Florida “Cypress Swamp” for the first part of the ride. Make sure to wear your helmet and stay alert as you approach other recreational users.

✓ Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Apply SPF-30 sunblock that is made in Florida, biodegradable, and nontoxic to marine life.

✓ Leave No Trace
Leave nothing but memories — trash receptacles are located at the trailhead and at Nocatee Landing Paddle Launch Park.

✓ Stay on the Trail
Remain on the established trails to minimize impacts on other sensitive lands.
